I am literally obsessed with Mars right about now. This is only a recent thing though, my favourite planet was and still very much is actually Saturn and as a child I used to pretend I was an alien from Saturn. Yeah weird I know. But my Mars obsession came about last year when I first got wind of the Mars One mission.
The mission has come under a lot of scrutiny in the press, some saying the astronauts will die within a few weeks others saying they’ll never take off. Either way I can’t help but feel excited by the prospect of living in an era where its even a concept that humans may step foot on another planet.
Obviously there’s a lot of ethics involved. Should we go? Will they die? What right do we have to go there? What if there is micro life on Mars and we destroy it with our alien presence? There are so many questions and not a lot of answers. I think its partly what makes it so intriguing. I am desperate for more news coverage, I literally hunt the internet daily to get my fix and feed my Mars obsession.
I am now in the planning stages of writing a novel all about the concept of a civilisation on Mars. If Mars One or other Mars missions are a success, that would be the ultimate goal. I have never attempted to write something science fiction based so its both exciting and terrifying at the same time. However, if I get it right my aim is to tick something of my bucket list and that is to publish a book – albiet an ebook but hey baby steps! (Ps. if you have any tips I would be grateful)
This would be a huge achievement though obviously not on the scale of footprints on Martian soil! What are your views about the mission?
