The trailer for Thor Ragnarok has finally been released! And it looks like it may be the Asgardian’s best solo outing yet!
What I liked:
- Cate Blanchett looks bloody badass and evil!!! Hela which is based on a figure of Norse Mythology called Hel who presides over Hel a part of the Niflheim…What does that mean? Well, she is basically sort of like Hades in greek mythology. Hel (the place) is said to be an important part the start of Ragnarök…what is Ragnarök? It’s the Norse apocalypse…yikes! I’m intrigued to see how Marvel presents this mythological story.
- The tone of the trailer was very juxtapositional! We have Thor in chains, Hela destroying Asgard and Mjölnir and then we have this totally other overly bright and gaudy setting of the gladiator tournaments.
- Jeff Goldblum – you can just tell that he’s going to be awesome, over the top and hedonistic as The Grandmaster.
- The visuals – this film’s CGI looks pretty spot on! Asgard has always looked great in the Thor films but the destruction of Asgard looks pretty epic especially those battle scenes!
What I Didn’t like:
- Thor’s haircut!!! Ah man, he looks damn fine with his long golden hair why they have to go and chop it all off for! – If that’s the only complaint I can muster up then y’all know this films gonna be awesome!
Questions:
- Will Jörmungandr make an appearance, will Thor fight the said World Serpent like he does in Mythology?
- Will the gods die? – Essentially Ragnarök is an apocalypse and in the myths Odin, Loki, Thor et al all die! The world is then submerged in water and reborn and two surviving humans repopulate the world. – Personally, I don’t see this happening in the Marvel Universe!
- What’s Doctor Stranges’ role in all this chaos!!??
- Why incorporate the Planet Hulk storyline into the Ragnarök…does this happen in the Comics? (sorry I have never actually read any Marvel comics besides the Daredevil series so correct me if I am wrong about anything!)
- What side is Loki going to be on!?
