This week on Bride of the Water God some major revelations came to light!!! Hoo Ye is most definitely more than what he’s letting on…
Much of the plot of episodes 7 and 8 revolved around the revelation that Hoo Ye is indeed a demi god!! We have had small little hints throughout the series so far but it wasn’t until Hoo Ye took So Ah to dinner and told her about his history that things started to fall into place. Hoo Ye tells So Ah that he is an orphan and states that ‘I don’t know who my mother is. My father abandoned me’. This revelation makes a convincing argument for the theory that Hoo Ye is a demigod but it also gives Hoo Ye a reason to be resentful and angry with the world around him which could potentially become more apparent later on if he were to become a threat to the other gods.
Meanwhile, Haebak and Moo-ra have discovered a blood stained rock on the God’s land (the land So-ah is trying to sell to Hoo-Ye) which is questionable after Moo-ra explains that no human can leave a trace on the land, only something a god does can remain, and the fact that the gods have pure gold running through their veins instead of blood means that the blood has to belong to a Demigod. A swift cut to Hoo-ye gardening again hints at the possibility that he is indeed the demigod. Another hint happens moments later too, a little blind girl who has been gardening with Hoo-ye gets upset by a caterpillar crawling on her arm, Hoo-ye brushes the bug off of the girl and moments later caterpillar mysteriously combusted.
Through a flash back in the Divine realm, the High Priest reveals that the Demigod has the power of fire and that unlike the other gods his power can be used for destruction rather than for good! Is this perhaps a set up for Hoo Ye to be the bad guy of the series!!! And it’s quite possible that he could become the bad guy seeing as he is becoming quite jealous of Habaek and So-ah’s blossoming romance.
After a slow start, it’s easy to say that Bride of the Water God’s storyline has now started to move along quite fast which is building up tension and drama that could potentially explode at any moment. Also what the heck is going on at the end of episode eight, why is Habaek running towards So-ah with a look of concern on his face! I pretty much as asked the same question as So-ah ‘Why is he like this?’ and then the pesky freeze frame appeared giving us a massive cliffhanger!
Let me know in the comments section what you think might happen next!!
