This weeks Bride of the Water God Episodes were very much about our two leads and the pain they both go through by saying goodbye.
In episode 11 Habaek confesses to So-ah and asks whether he can just be ‘irresponsible’ and start a relationship with her. So-ah naturally rejects him as she doesn’t want to deal with the inevitable end of a relationship when he leaves for the Water Kingdom. You can understand the thinking on both sides, they have a connection and it should be explored as in the future they may regret not giving their romance a chance but on the other hand if something is only going to cause heartache and disappointment surely it’s better to stop it before it starts for the sake of self-preservation. Ah, this relationship is so complicated and conflicted! Amusingly Habaek goes out drinking with Bi Ryum, Habaek uses alcohol to drown his sorrows for the fact that So-ah is the first human to reject him for 2800 years! Bi Ryum, however, can’t get drunk because he hasn’t lost his godly powers so he follows Habaek around recording his drunken behaviour which includes having a conversation with a red post box? and getting into a fight that causes Bi Ryum to suavely intervene.
Naturally, Habaek leaves the realm of the humans and returns to the water kingdom, weirdly the show doesn’t follow him instead the rest of episode 12 follows So-ah as she navigates work and life without the Water God. You can tell that she misses him even if he was rather overbearing and insolent at times. However, they are reunited by the end of the episode in a rather sweet moment where So-ah is walking home at night and she spots Habaek in his usual spot under the lamp outside her house. It’s the perfect way to reunite the two lovers, however, I’m a little concerned about Hoo Ye who was following So-ah! Is he going to discover that Habaek is back and become a little more than just jealous towards them!!
Let me know in the comments section what you thought of this week’s episodes!
