Life is too short to be mediocre, you haven’t got time for that! You need to wake up and find determination from within to have success, today and everyday after that.
You are better than mediocre. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that when you have menial tasks to complete. That’s why I set myself three goals everyday and I make sure they are completed before my head hits the pillow. Set yourself three promises as you rise from bed, three things that you want from the day. They don’t have to be big things they just need to be achievable and give your day something extra. Then the hard bit, you must make sure (just as I do) that you achieve these three things… your life depends on it ;).
Now of course there are days when you seem to have got out the wrong side of the bed. But its what you do with your day that will either make it or break it. You could continue with the negative attitude or you could turn the frown in a different direction. Life is after all what you make of it. I feel like, if I make progress towards goals I have in a day, then it helps lift a bad mood. There is nothing worse than feeling like time has slipped by and you haven’t progressed. Don’t fall into that trap!
The little goals that you set yourself daily will begin to mount up into something far greater. It makes bigger more challenging goals seem manageable and ultimately more obtainable. If you want success, its a 24/7 journey, you can’t let yourself have mediocre days. All that does is push your success back, we don’t want to go backwards, we are trekking on forwards through bad moods, good times and anything in-between. Because we are better than mediocre.
Cate and I have decided to set up our own book club! Cate really loves reading and has way too many books! You only need to see her book cover video to see her passion for reading and collecting fiction. On the other hand, I will put my hands up and confess that I don’t read that much.
I want to read more and share Cate’s enthusiasm but we are very different readers. I am a lazy reader and prefer books that don’t make you work too hard to unravel the story. Personally, I prefer shorter books and I read little bits at a time and can go weeks in-between. Whereas Cate will quite happily read big meaty books all day, she loves a wide range of authors and genres. It’s probably why she has a great vocabulary and is 100% the smartest Crafter sister.
Every month we are going to put forward two books for the book club. This month we have chosen The Circle and Moondust and you can join us here.
The Circle came on my radar after I watched the trailer for the upcoming film adaptation starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks. The concept feels very much of our time and it’s an interesting look at our post-modern society that is very much shared with potentially thousands of people over the internet (via social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram). Like any story/film about the internet or technology, The Circle feels like it’s going to be a study on the dangers of information and the transparency that the internet could potentially create in the near future, with a whole lot of conspiracy and suspense thrown in.
I was browsing Waterstones and spotted Moondust. I love Sci-fi and the book is all about the moon. So straight away I knew I wanted this to be my first book club pick! The story is about a base on the moon that mines Lumite (a power source for Earth). The main character is a young girl Aggie who was the sole-survivor of a huge explosion that happened ten years prior. Aggie is suddenly thrust into the limelight to help keep the peace and support for the company. But she starts to doubt things after meeting a prison miner. I feel like this is going to be an interesting read. I think it will throw up some questions as to what could happen when we run out of fuels on Earth and the importance of questioning those in charge.
IT’S CHRISTMAS!!! Well okay it’s not Christmas technically but when you think about it as soon as December 1st hits everyone starts getting in that christmassy mood so to help get you feeling festive we have compiled a little Christmas playlist…with a twist, on this playlist we are trying to stay away from the really overplayed Christmas songs that drive you crazy by the time the 25th finally comes around (Cate: I was at work yesterday and I swear Last Christmas by Wham! was on the radio 5 times! 5 Times!!!) so anyway here is our Xmas Playlist
This song is amazingly catchy and you can’t help but sing along.
This song is officially my favourite Christmas song! I can’t understand a word but I translated the lyrics and it is indeed very Christmasy. I came across this song when I watched a very endearing romantic Japanese Drama called 5→9～私に恋したイケメンすぎるお坊さん～ (From 5 to 9) that was set over the Christmas period and like in all J-Drama’s & K-Drama’s the song was featured throughout the series where it played over some sweet and touching scenes between the two main characters.
To be fair this does get played quite a lot but not as much as some of the other Christmas songs.
I love the Beatles from the bottom of my heart, they were one of the most insanely talented and inventive bands of the 60’s, so naturally, I have enjoyed a lot of their solo endeavours. Happy Xmas (War is Over) was made as part of John and Yoko’s efforts to protest against the Vietnam War and the song has since been immortalised as a classic Christmas song.
Gotta love a sad Christmas song.
Lee Jong Hyun is my bae, do I really need to say anymore? Okay, I will anyway…This is a cute little christmassy love song that is just so sweet it warms your heart on these long dark winter days.
Of course, the list wouldn’t be complete without Robbie! I have loved Robbie Williams since I was a kid. I used to borrow my mums CD’s and listen to his greatest hits over and over.
Ah, this is such a beautiful ballad, not extremely Christmassy but the vocals are so stunning. Plus there is a cute little puppy as a present in the video and some snow…It’s Christmassy enough!!
Christmas is not complete without this song. It’s such a beautiful melody and holds a place in my heart. Plus it’s is a great one to have in the background whilst eating your Christmas dinner and enjoying good company.
There is something so soothing about Cole’s voice, this is an essential laid back Christmas song that is thankfully not too overplayed!
Okay, so that’s our selection of Christmas songs that don’t drive us crazy!
From a young age, we are taught that forgiveness is important. I agree that it is important to forgive, you can’t move forward without finding that strength. Yet, we focus a lot on forgiving other people rather than forgiving ourselves. So today, I am going to convince myself and you guys, that we need to find it within ourselves to forgive ourself.
When I make a mistake I beat myself up and feel stupid and frustrated; very stupid and frustrated actually. Its normal to feel this way, we want to be perfect and have everything running like clockwork. Unfortunately, the reality is perfection is an illusion. I am realising this more and more each day, I used to look at celebrities and think they had perfect lives but now I know that’s just not the case. It’s the same feeling when you log into Facebook, everyone posts about how exciting their life is and you feel like you are merely existing.
The truth is celebrities, Facebook friends, co-works, neighbours, you and me, we all have good days and bad days. Most people choose not to post the daily grind on Facebook, it wouldn’t make for good reading. Updates like ‘just taking out the bins’ or ‘stuck in traffic’, nobody wants to read that!
But we all experience those things; even the most ‘successful’ people on this planet have to poop they don’t crap glitter! You are not perfect. We are not perfect and we must forgive ourselves for this.
Forgive your imperfections because that is what makes you a human being, they are part of your beauty and your downfall. So what; if you don’t get full marks on a test! So what; if you are late for work this week! So what; if you choose to eat a tub of ice cream on the sofa instead of hitting the gym! It doesn’t matter. Just like it doesn’t matter if you have stretch marks, if you are short, tall, fat, thin, or if you don’t fit the media’s Bulls*** ideal of ‘beauty’. Their ideal is fake, they photoshop beautiful people for no good reason.
We are not photoshop, we are real life. You can’t cut and paste the bad bits, the ugly bits, the damn right ridiculous bits, you just have to roll with it and if you make mistakes then roll with those too. Forgive yourself for the bad hair day or the junk food meal and then move on. We have bigger fish to fry and you can’t do that if you are fretting over things that really don’t matter.
P.S. from Cate – Take a moment to revisit this brilliantly raw song by Beyonce, this is perhaps one of her best and most inspiring songs in my opinion as it explores the expectations of Women to be beautiful and how that breeds insecurity and an obsession with our imperfections. And instead of getting plastic surgery to fix your face or your body ‘It’s the soul that needs the surgery’ after all.
So Today (and every day from now) do yourself a favour and Forgive Yourself because at the end of the day you didn’t get to choose your outwards appearance, biology did so instead of worrying about what you look like cultivate the person beneath the flesh.
Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes – hows that for a title?! Pretty thought provoking right? When you actually think for a moment it actually is just common sense. It seems pretty obvious yet so many of us get stuck in a loop and we forget how to break out of it.
Change doesn’t have to be big. In fact, I find little manageable changes easier to achieve and ultimately more motivating. You don’t need to have every step of your journey planned out you just need to know where you want to end up. If you want to end up in the exactly same position you are now; in ten years time, then carry on. It will be a lot easier than striving for more but a lot less rewarding.
There will be bumps in the road. There will be doubts both from you and people around you. You just need to keep a clear head, stay focused and avoid being sucked into negativity. Happiness and success are born in the absence of negativity. Negative thoughts breed doubt and doubt clouds creativity.
If you want change then you need to create it, nobody will do it for you. People say good things come to those who wait and there is an element of truth in that statement. But people take it too literally! If you sit on your sofa waiting, good things are not going to just show up knocking at your door. If you work hard and have patience then thats when goodness will begin to show itself.
November is the beginning of awards season which is such a good time for film because the is the time where we get to see brilliant storytelling and outstanding cinematography , so without further ado heres my most anticipated films of November.
Arrival looks like it may be unlike most films that have ever been made about extraterrestrials visiting earth, favouring a slow burning and psychological side with fantastic cinematography rather than action packed gun blazing attacks every five minutes to satisfy the blockbuster audience. And perhaps the reason behind this more independent styled angle is that director Denis Villeneuve (Enemy, Prisoners & Sicario) is at the helm who is arguably one of the most interesting directors working in Hollywood right now.
I like the fact that the film is also focusing on the language barrier between the aliens and us humans and the terror that situation would bring which would then possibly cause a war that could annihilate the human race, and of course the cast is brilliant with Amy Adams front and centre as linguistic expert Louise Banks. Basically this film could be this years Ex_Machina.
And thats a wrap so these are the three films I’m dying to see this month, no doubt I’ll probably end up seeing a few more because I am always watching old films as well as foreign films that never get a cinema release in the UK.
Let me know what films your excited to see this month in the comments section down bellow.
It’s almost Halloween!
Growing up we never celebrated the occasion instead my parents would switch all the lights out and we would be as quiet as mice. They of course were hoping nobody would knock at the door – mainly because sweets don’t last in our house. We would have nothing to give the kids!
So you are probably wondering why I am getting excited? Well, my little sister Lily was desperate to celebrate Halloween so last year Chris introduced a new tradition to the Crafter household. It is of course pumpkin carving!
Skip forward a whole year. Oh my goodness where did that year go? And we are approaching carving time. I wanted to make the experience a bit more special this year. Rather than nipping to the local Morrison’s to pick up some pumpkins I persuaded Chris to come pumpkin picking!
We went down to Pumpkin Moon – a local pumpkin field in Sandling near Maidstone. They had planted acres of land with a huge variety of pumpkins and squash. You can see from the pictures that there are plenty of traditional orange pumpkin but they also had; tiny Munchkin, Goosebump and white Snowman.
They had a huge pile of wheelbarrows so I picked a nice bright pink one for Chris and I to take on our little journey. We selected 8 pumpkins altogether on our trip and they are all different sizes. We spoke to the farmer and a lovely lady who gave us some great tips about the health benefits of eating pumpkin and its seeds. I am going to look into some recipes before we use the pumpkins to carve our spooky creations. I think it would feel rather festive to have some pumpkin soup or maybe a slice of pumpkin pie don’t you think?
There is still time to get down to Pumpkin Moon I would 100% recommend picking your own. It was lovely to see so many families spending time together and its a good walk in the fresh air. I will most certainly returning next year. I have decided that Pumpkin picking is now part of the Crafter Halloween tradition.
The bag I chose to show case for the video is my latest purchase – hence why there aren’t a thousand pens inside. It does however weight a ton, okay maybe not a ton but its super heavy. I think like most girls I pack way too much stuff. I do wonder how men manage to survive without a bag.
I wont spoil the video by telling you all the objects inside. Though there is a rather strange receipt that made me question how I spend my money! Although the receipt was a good few months old (I really need to clean my purses out more often) it still shocked me! It is so easy to waste money so I think I am going to be more mindful in the future.
This video was great fun to film I am really loving this new venture. The only issue I had was with my camera! I am still very much learning how to use it and I think I knocked something so the focus isn’t brilliant. I hope you can forgive me and still enjoy the content! If anyone has any tips on how to use the Cannon 700D for filming then please share!
Normally, I find adverts boring and take no notice but this one caught my attention. It put forward the notion of talkers and doers. It said ‘talkers talk, doers do things that get talked about’ and that got me thinking. Am I a talker or am I a doer? After a moment I decided that I am a bit of both! But I want to be more of a doer.
It is very easy to talk bout what you want; but actually going out there and doing it is a lot tougher. We are all guilty of it in some way or another. I say I want to eat healthier but then when it comes to doing it I find myself with two cakes in each hand… okay that’s a slight exaggeration, but you get my point. Sometimes the idea of something is appealing but the process of getting there is less than desirable. I wont give up, I just know it’s going to be a long process. Never give up. Doers don’t give up.
I know we are all busy, life is full of annoying stuff that gets in the way of what you actually want to do. I have a thirty-two-thousand-word story on my computer that is crying out to be completed; I just haven’t had enough time to sit down and get in the zone. I am however, quite proud I managed to get that much down – I think it’s a world record for me!
My point is; work to live do not live to work. Use the daily grind to help you build your future. I am not for a moment saying going to school or having job isn’t important, quite the opposite! It’s very important, it’s the key that unlocks your future. I am merely saying it doesn’t define you and it certainly shouldn’t stand in the way of your dreams. The best quote from the advert was ‘talkers think about the future, doers are already building it’. Have a game plan and stick to it. If you want to be a doer you need to start now – theres no time for thinking about it!
So are you a talker or are you a doer? If you are anything like me there isn’t a straight answer. So I have come up with some tips that we can both use to help us be more proactive!
