Throne of Glass is a Young Adult High Fantasy novel that follows a young assassin named Celaena Sardothien as she navigates a dangerous set of trials and games to become the King’s Champion and to gain her freedom.
Read from 07/09/16 to 21/06/17 – 😱 HOW LONG??!!
Well for some reason it took me a while to get through this book, I think it was simply a case of being distracted by many other books at the same time. I am someone who often has more than 10 books on the go at any one time…which is insane…and a total logistical nightmare!!
Anyhoo I would say that I enjoyed reading Throne of Glass, but I did feel that it was a little too predictable, and perhaps because I’m not really a massive YA reader it felt, dare I say it, a little simple in writing style. Don’t get me wrong sometimes that’s what you want from a book, something easygoing and simple to read. But personally, I am someone that likes more fanciful purple prose like Angela Carter (the lady herself admitted it: “OK, I write overblown, purple, self-indulgent prose. So f**king what?“) and I also love stories that go to the most unexpected places with often untidy or mysterious endings like Murakami. However
However, I will say that Celaena was a refreshingly badass heroine, and that’s nice to see in Fantasy which often was in the past (and still is to some extent) a Male orientated genre (think Lord of the Rings etc). Also, I will probably reach for the next book in the series at some point in the near future as I am a little curious to see where the story goes and I believe that it may become more interesting now that Celaena can leave the castle to do the King’s bidding.
My scoring system is out of five so for me Throne of Glass was comme-ci comme-cas in other words so so.
